چکیده

The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was administered to 43 normal volunteers imm~iate~y before and after a positron emission tomography (PET) procedure with [J*~-2-fluoro-2~eoxy-D-glucose (r*F-FDG). High traitanxious individuals had significantly higher state (situational) anxiety associated with the PET scan procedure than did low trait-anxious persons. State anxiety decreased significantly for all respondents following the PET scan procedure. No significant relationships between global or regional cortical metabolic rates and state anxiety were observed. The direct cortical metabolic effects of heightened anxiety in the scan setting, should they exist, are likely obscured in the normal variance of the ‘SF-FDG method.

L-NAME and 7-Nitroindazole Reduces Brain Injuries in Transient Focal Cerebral Ischemia in Rat

Background: The role of nitric oxide (NO) of endothelial or neuronal origins in cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injuries are far from being settled, extending from being important to not having any role at all.  Objective: To investigate the role of NO of endothelial and neuronal origins in ischemia/reperfusion injuries in focal cerebral ischemia, L-NAME, a non selective NO synthase inhibitor...

Topographical evaluation of aphasia based on brain vascular territories

Topographical evaluation of aphasic brain lesions can enhance our knowledge of cognitive physiology and plasticity. This prospective study was conducted on 100 stroke-afflicted patients with aphasia admitted in Valie-Asr Hospital (Khorasan, Iran) in 2003. Topography of infarct lesions was detected by a neurologist based on the map of brain vascular territories in CT-scan. Aphasic lesions catego...

Cortical functional activity in patients with generalized anxiety disorder

BACKGROUND The neurological correlates of Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) are not well known, however there is evidence of cortical dysregulation in patients with GAD. The aim of the study was to examine cortical functional activity in different cerebral regions in patients with GAD using electroencephalogram (EEG) nonlinear analysis to evaluate its contribution of anxiety severity. METHOD...

Adults With Cardiovascular Disease The Synergistic Effects of Anxiety and Cerebral Hypoperfusion on Cognitive Dysfunction in Older

Objectives: Anxiety is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and is associated with neurocognitive outcomes. The effect of anxiety on brain perfusion in a CVD population has yet to be examined, and no study has investigated the interactive effects of anxiety and cerebral perfusion on cognition. Methods: A total of 55 older adults with CVD completed the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and ...
